The energy debate project
In our energy debate project, we debated the pros and cons of various types of energy sources, specifically nuclear energy. In order to do this we did tons of research on the energy types from their Carbon Dioxide to how much these sources are affected by terrorism. This research is in the linked document below. We debated in the tournament in a weird "official" format my teacher found, and we debated against the other groups in our team and the other team also doing the project. The 5 debate questions we had to answer were:
1. Is nuclear energy a better alternative to fossil fuels?
2. Can nuclear waste be disposed of efficiently and safely?
3. Is Nuclear Energy a better alternative to Hydropower, Solar, and Wind energy?
4. Is nuclear energy capable of powering our world indefinitely?
5. Are Nuclear accidents acceptable risks?
This is a link to my CREW document. CREW stands for claim, reasoning, evidence, and warrant. We did this for all of the topics in the document, and this document contained all of our research for the project.
Overall, I was very proud of my work in this project. I spent lots and lots of time researching and taking notes in the above document and it paid off. My team got 2nd place overall out of 12-ish groups. I learned how to be an effective debater and that I need to not debate so aggressively. I was challenged in this project with finding quality sources and making up work my group missed. If I were to do this project again I would do it much the same, as I thought I did great overall.
